Funeral services for Velma Brown Wootton, 83, of Lufkin will be held Monday, March 13, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Austin Fischer officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Ms. Wootton was born May 11, 1933 in Baytown, Texas to the late Etta Blanche (Epperson) and Allen Grant Blythe, and died Friday, March 10, 2017 in Lufkin.
Ms. Wootton had lived in Houston prior to moving to Lufkin. She was a Secretary for Truck and Pickup for more than 10 years. She was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include her daughters, Gail Carney and husband Jack of Pearland, Peggy Bowser and husband Mickey of Lufkin; son, Larry Brown of Kingwood; daughter-in-law, Debbie Brown of Lufkin; grandchildren, Angela Bowser Meloy, Craig Bowser, Amanda Bowser Warren, John Hackney, Jennifer Hackney Szimanski, Laura Hackney Anderson, Caroline Hackney Toby, Sarah Carney Fiel, Jessica Carney Williamson, Ryan Shelton, Jillian Brown, Austin Brown, and Allison Brown Fischer; 21 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; father of her children, L. G. “Dumpy” Brown; son, Allen George Brown; daughter-in-law, Laura Brown; grandson, Brett Anthony Brown; and brother, Joe W. Blythe.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Craig Bowser, John Hackney, Austin Brown, Tom Szimanski, Jason Anderson, David Toby, John Meloy, Jim Ross Warren, Austin Fischer, and Kirby Shelton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 212 Gene Samford Drive, Lufkin, Texas, 75904.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
