Graveside services with military honors for Charles F. “Dave”, “CF”, “Tuffy” Davis, 80, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Berry Cemetery with Brother Horace Fletcher officiating.
Old Soldiers never die they simply fade away. Charles F. Davis has finished his final victory lap and waiting to greet him at the Pearly Gate finish line are his mother, Kate Atkins, and his father, William Coston “Mutt” Davis.
Mr. Davis was born August 20, 1936 in Pearson, Georgia to the late Kate Estelle (Dawson) and William Coston Davis, and died Sunday, March 5, 2017 at Debakey VA Hospital in Houston, Texas where he fought a long battle of complications from Agent Orange.
He lived in Waycross, Georgia until joining the US Army in 1954 to 1974 serving his county for 19 years before being honorably discharged. He served in the Vietnam and Korean War. He received National Defense Service Medal, Army Occupation Medal (Germany), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), Driver Badge, Good Conduct Medal Clasp, Bronze, 2 Loops, Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, Marksman (Rifle M-14) and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. After the military, he moved to Lufkin and retired from Lufkin Industries as a trailer builder. His passion was cooking, gardening, fishing, and going to the Panther football games on Friday nights. He was also a member of the Allen Gin Baptist Church.
Seeing him off on his final journey is his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Lynda Davis; his children, daughter, Kathy Davis of Lufkin and companion Dennis Hohn of Canada; son, James Davis and wife, Lisa of Lufkin; daughter, Becky Dry of Lufkin and companion Austin Samford of Huntington; grandchildren, Halee and Brendon Dry of Lufkin, Nick Carrell and wife Becky of Broaddus; great-granddaughters, Sheyanna, Savannah, and Annie Carrell of Broaddus; brothers, Gene Davis and wife Shirley, and William Davis and wife Linda, all of Waycross, Georgia; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Honorary pallbearers will be Brendon Dry and Halee Dry.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
