Graveside services for Louise Arnold, 97, of Lufkin will be held Monday, March 6, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapelwood Memorial Gardens with Reverend Larry Sims officiating.
Mrs. Arnold was born December 18, 1919 in Flint, Texas to the late Susie (Crow) and John Toy McElvany, and passed away into Glory Wednesday, March 2, 2017 at Pinecrest in Lufkin.
Mrs. Arnold lived in Texarkana for 59 years where she was a secretary at First Baptist Church Texarkana and Coca Cola Bottling Company. She was an active member of First Baptist Church where she was one of the founders of the Homebound Ministry. She and her husband were sponsors for many youth mission trips, and Louise was a volunteer in the nursery department, enjoying the position even more when her oldest grandchildren were able to join the group. She and JC were also active members of the Senior Adult group where they attended weekly Bible studies and she sang in the choir. They travelled extensively across the United States and up into Canada, both with the mission teams and also with close friends.
Louise was known for the many artistic abilities with which God had blessed her. She was a member of several local clubs in Texarkana where members painted both China and porcelain and served as President of the Texarkana China Painting club. Other favorite hobbies included knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, quilting, sewing, reading, playing the piano and organ, raising orchids and gardening.
Through her years, “Nannie”, as she was known by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was always willing to get out the paints and ceramics so they could also be creative. She would cook, sew and paint with them until their hearts were content. Her friends will also remember her as someone who was generous and caring.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and JoAnn Arnold of Lufkin; daughter-in-law Jean Arnold of Texarkana; brother-in law and sister-in law, Harold and Betty Arnold of Tyler; sister-in-law, Dorothy McElvany of Onalaska; sister-in-law, Mildred Hooker of Tyler; grandchildren and spouses, TL Arnold Jr, Traci and Wes Read, Toni and Brandon Brooks, Anita and Chris Caraway, and Glen and JonAnna Arnold; great grandchildren, Cole Caraway, Corinne Caraway, Victoria Brooks, Brandon Brooks, Kimberlin Arnold, Charlie Arnold, and Addyson Arnold; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.
