The Lord called home His faithful follower today. Funeral services for Robbie Owens Thompson, 94, of Lufkin will be held Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Cindy Doran officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mrs. Thompson was born September 11, 1922 in Tipton, Oklahoma to the late Robert Lee and Mamie Owens, and passed peacefully Friday, February 24, 2017 at Hospice of East Texas, Tyler. Robbie grew up in Nacogdoches, was a graduate of Nacogdoches High School and resided in the area until moving to Orange during WWII. It was there she met Virgil “Tommy” Thompson, Navy serviceman from Laurel, Montana. They married in 1945, lived in San Bernardino, California following the war and moved to Lufkin to be near her parents. They resided in Lufkin for the remainder of their lives, owning businesses and raising four children. She and her husband were members of First Baptist Church Lufkin and the Adult 7 Berean class.
She and Tommy enjoyed music and dancing to the bands of the 40’s era and they sought out every opportunity to dance together. Her days were happiest when she was surrounded by her four children, grandchildren and great-grands. Her main hobby was reading, of which we found her doing each time we entered her home. And her pastime was listening to the great pastors of her day. Those who knew her would remember her smile, sense of humor and her standards which she passed on to all who loved her.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Merry Thompson of Lufkin and Brian and Jerri Lynn Thompson of Tyler; daughters and sons-in-law, Dian and Gary Ogden of Arlington and Carol and Curt Rowin of Lufkin; grandchildren and spouses, Alyssa and Richard Minshew, Amanda Thompson, David and Tiffany Bennett, Alissa and Michael Youngbloom, Jamie and Todd Dickerson, Jeremy Thompson, Tyler Ogden, Cameron Ogden, Hunter Ogden, Tyea and Ryan McKee, Nick and Acelya Villarreal; 18 great-grandchildren; and very special aunt, Opal Blackburn of Hood River, Oregon, formerly of Nacogdoches.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Virgil “Tommy” Thompson.
Pallbearers will be grandsons: Tyler Ogden, Cameron Ogden, Hunter Ogden, Jeremy Thompson, Bryce Minshew, Blake Minshew, David Bennett, and Todd Dickerson.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, Texas 75701.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday morning prior to the services.
