Graveside services with military honors and masonic rites for Robert Wayne Walker, 81, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Berry Cemetery with Brother Rick Williams officiating.
Mr. Walker was born January 29, 1936 in Huntington, Texas to the late Ada (Martin) and Elmo Walker, and passed away Saturday, February 4, 2017 at his residence.
Mr. Walker served in the United States Navy and retired from TXDOT after 36 years. He was a Master Mason and had been a member of the Lufkin Masonic Lodge #669, A.F. & A.M., for more than 50 years. Mr. Walker was a farmer and a rancher. He adored his wife, as she was the “love of his life”. And he loved his children and grandchildren. He was faithful to his country. He strongly believed in his country and he loved his Lord. Mr. Walker was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Nell Walker of Lufkin; son, Stephen Walker and wife Donna of Lufkin; daughters, Sonya Coffey and husband Danny of Rusk, and Gina Bruce and husband Robert of Huntington; grandchildren, Justin Coffey and wife Rachel of San Antonio, Austin Bruce of Huntington, Carson Walker, Logan Walker, Reagan Walker and wife Rachel Walker, all of Huntington, Cheyenne Cowen of Tyler, and Dakota Cowen of Lufkin; great-grandson, Jaxson Sims of Tyler; sisters, Dorothy, Linda, and Vickie; sisters-in-law, Ollie Walker of Lufkin, and Betty Walker of Lima, Ohio, Betty Pinner and husband Kenneth of Lufkin, Carrie Clegg of Lufkin, Mary Whitley of Lufkin, and Fran Hightower of Lufkin; brothers-in-law, James Hightower of Lufkin, Delwyn Hightower and wife Linda, and Charles Hightower, all of Nacogdoches, Windell Hightower and wife Donna of Huntington, and Bobby Dan Hightower and wife Monica of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughters, Kelsey Coffey and Krista Bruce; brothers, Hulon Walker, Wilburn Walker, and Ray Walker; sisters, Margie Stringer and Elawanda Pitts, brothers-in-law, Oscar Hightower and Robert Wayne Hightower; and sister-in-law, Manda Reynolds.
Pallbearers will be Justin Coffey, Austin Bruce, Carson Walker, Logan Walker, Reagan Walker, and Dakota Cowen. Honorary pallbearers will be Gaylon Walker and Robert (Bobby) Walker.
The family would like to thank Hospice in the Pines, especially Debbie and Megan, for their loving care.
