Funeral services for Betty Lee Burchfield, 79, of Lufkin will be held Friday, February 3, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Charles Wisdom and Dr. Mark Livingston officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Mrs. Burchfield was born October 26, 1937 in Diboll, Texas to the late Jewel Helen (Smith) and Percy Lee George, and died Thursday, January 31, 2017 in a local hospital. Mrs. Burchfield was a lifetime resident of Angelina County and was the 1955 Diboll Day Queen. She retired from Temple Inland following 19 years of employment in the Payroll Department. Mrs. Burchfield adored her children and grandchildren; they were her life. Her absolute favorite time of the year was Christmas. She had a huge Santa collection, and told Carl exactly where each of them needed to go. Mrs. Burchfield enjoyed flowers, the outdoors, and going antiquing. She loved fishing and being at the lake. Mrs. Burchfield was a member of Keltys First Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Carl Burchfield of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Carl, Jr. and Mary Joyce Burchfield of Pollok; grandchildren and spouses, Ashlei and John Clower, Brittany and Logan Vann, Lacy and Travis Cain, Courtney and Cody Stifle, and Justin Burchfield; great-grandchildren, Tristen Rios, Peyton Vann, Weston Cain, and Brooklyn Lane Stifle; brothers and sister-in-law, Clinton “Bud” George and Wayne Dennis and Nora George, all of Jacksonville; brother-in-law, Bob McNiece of Jacksonville; and a number of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Steven Burchfield, great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Faith Vann; and sister, Linda Beth McNiece. Pallbearers will be Travis Cain, Cody Stifle, Logan Vann, John Clower, Billy Stovall, and David McNiece. The family extends special thanks to the staffs of Woodland Heights Medical Center 3rd Floor and Hospice in the Pines for their loving care of Mrs. Burchfield. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis Tennessee 38148-0142. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
