Memorial services for Leonard Lloyd Ward, 71, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jim Mackey, Dr. Cubie Ward, Michael Ward, and Reverend M. Kelly Ward officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home. Mr. Ward was born February 13, 1945 in Corsicana, Texas to the late Narleta Bell (Dake) and Reverend Harold Lloyd Ward, and died Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at The Joseph House. Leonard Ward was ordained as a minister of the Assemblies of God in 1968 and pastored churches in Murchison, Hooks, Odessa, Lufkin, Arlington, Crockett, and Longview. Leonard was also a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor and directed drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs for several Texas prisons, East Texas Treatment Facility in Henderson, and the Harris County Sheriff’s Department. Leonard was active in the communities he served, including state and multi state positions for the Royal Rangers, a boys scouting program of the A/G, Vice President and President of the Lufkin Ministerial Alliance, and numerous other organizations. The Ward family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at MD Anderson Cancer Hospital, Houston, Texas, Parkwood Place Nursing Center, Lufkin, Texas and Denice Bennefield and the staff and volunteers of The Joseph’s House, Lufkin, Texas for their loving care and kindness for Leonard and the family. Survivors include his wife, Nora Cole Ward of Houston; children, Martin Kelly and wife Alisa (Alford) Ward of Springfield, Missouri, Michael Kenyon and wife Melanie (Beggs) Ward of Tyler, and Robin Chandra (Ward) Afshar and husband Mohammad of North Zulch, Texas; grandchildren, Micah Kent Ward of Austin, Texas, Melanie Elizabeth Ward of Springfield, Missouri, Noah Ashton Ward and Christopher Jayden Ward of Springfield, Missouri, Wali Bellton Afshar, Abram Hammad Afshar, and AnnaBella-Grace Parveen Afshar, all of North Zulch; great-grandchildren, Thomas Ward, Micayla Ward, and Morgan Ward, all of Bolivar, Missouri; and numerous other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Matthew Kensington Ward. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jim Atteberry, Glen Youngblood, Greg McClure, Justin Wilson, Kyle McClure, Calvin McClure, Roger McClure, Tommy Howard, Brian Smith, Michael Smith, and Jon Watson.
