Funeral services for Joe Allen Oates, 66, of Hudson will be held Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Brad Simms and Pastor Robert Gibbo officiating. The eulogy will be given by Greg Carswell. Interment will follow in the Largent Cemetery.  Mr. Oates was born April 26, 1950 in Angelina County, Texas to the late Susie Elizabeth (Russell) and James Luther Oates, and died Sunday, January 29, 2017 at his residence.  Mr. Oates was a lifetime resident of Hudson. He served in the U.S. Army, was a butcher at Safeway for 25 years, and also worked for C&L Trucking. He was of the Assembly of God faith.  Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Cindy Oates of Hudson; sons and daughters-in-law, Jerod Oates of Hudson, Justin and Natalie Oates of Lufkin, Kent and Tammy Oates of Kingwood, and Greg and April Carswell of Lufkin; grandchildren, Chesney, Riley, Brayden, Blakelie, Kaytlin, Jacob, Randy, Hannah, Gracie, and Emma; sister and brother-in-law, VonCille and Ed Hearndon of Willis; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Lucy Modisette of Lufkin, Bettye and Burt Lane of Beaumont, and Pam and Bobby Lovett of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Curtis Oates and Lowell Oates.  Pallbearers will be Riley Oates, Jacob Oates, Brayden Thompson, Todd Rouse, Ray Davis, and Charles McAlister.  Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Lovett, Burt Lane, Bob Flowers, Jerry Peden, Nathan Watson, and Phil Adkison.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Largent Cemetery Association, 349 Porter Road, Lufkin, Texas 75904.  The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.  Memories and condolences may be added, and live webcasting of the services may be viewed at www.carrowayfuneralhome.com .   Carroway Funeral Home, Lufkin, directors.
