Sandra Gail Curry

Funeral services for Sandra Gail Curry, 63, of Hudson will be held Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Leo Lytle officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Ms. Curry was born July 21, 1953 in Lufkin, Texas to Beatrice (Brock) and Isic Donald Curry, and died Sunday, January 29, 2017 in a local hospital.

Ms. Curry was a lifetime resident of Angelina County. She earned a Bachelor of Education at Stephen F. Austin State University and taught at Slack Elementary for 33 years. Teaching was her passion and she was loved, admired, and respected by all who knew her.

Ms. Curry enjoyed traveling and visiting with friends. She loved life and taking care of others. Ms. Curry particularly enjoyed rocking babies. She was an avid reader. Ms. Curry attended Faith Family Church.

Survivors include her mother, Beatrice Smith of Huntington; brother and sister-in-law, Jon and Kim Smith of Nacogdoches; nephews, Brandon Smith and Zachary Smith, both of Nacogdoches; friends, Shelia and Atmar Lester and family of Diboll; numerous friends, relatives, former students, and extended family of fellow teachers; and her beloved pet, Peanut.

She was preceded in death by her father, I.D. Curry; stepfather, James Buford Smith; and Benji, her beloved Shih-Tzu.

Pallbearers will be Justin Lester, Monty Nettles, Dillon Mason, Mark Hicks, David Minshew, and Arlin Grimes.

Honorary pallbearers will be Linda Cryer, Arline Gates, Mary Grimes, Nancy Hicks, Connie Minshew, Karen Mooman, and Kathy Ramsey.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon prior to the services.
