Graveside services with military honors for Frederick W. “Poppie” LaRoche, 92, of Nacogdoches will be held Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the Sunset Memorial Park in Nacogdoches with Micah Buzbee officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.
Mr. LaRoche was born July 28, 1924 in Port Isabel, Texas to the late Kitty May (Livingston) and Francis Marcelino LaRoche, and died Wednesday, January 18, 2017 in Nacogdoches.
Mr. LaRoche had resided in Nacogdoches for the past 15 years, prior to that he lived in Huffman. For more than 40 years he worked for several chemical companies as a Project Manager doing chemical plant maintenance and engineering. He served in World War II in the United States Navy as a 2 nd Class Gunner’s Mate on minesweepers and subchasers, in the South Pacific and Asiatic campaigns. He had a love for the sea and fishing. He could make, fix, or grow just about anything. He will be remembered for how much he loved to dance and was an avid ‘whistler’. His friends fondly recall him brightening up their days. He was a very loving and an amazing rock of a father and best friend to his daughter, Jeanette. He was a dedicated husband and much loved grandfather and great-grandfather who enjoyed nature and being outdoors.
Survivors include his daughter, Jeanette M. Duckworth of Nacogdoches; granddaughters, Anne and husband Bryan Turnage of Magnolia, Jaime Alberta and husband John Fowler Anderson, Jr. of Nacogdoches; great-grandchildren, June Elliott of Nacogdoches, Rachel Atleigh of Magnolia; sisters-in-law, Marian LaRoche of Brownsville, Lynne Kloss LaRoche of The Woodlands, Betty LaRoche of California; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alberta F. LaRoche; brothers, William LaRoche, Harlan LaRoche, James LaRoche, John LaRoche, Robert LaRoche, Connie LaRoche, Joe LaRoche, Francis LaRoche, Jr., Frank LaRoche, Jr., Willy L. LaRoche, Daniel LaRoche; sisters, Francis Mae Pechacek, and Mary F. Dedrick.
