Funeral services for Patricia Ann (Parten) Berry, 71, of Hudson will be held Monday, January 16, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother David Merritt officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mrs. Berry was born May 14, 1945 in Diboll, Texas to the late Mary Louise (Trigg) and William Curtis Parten, and joined her Heavenly Father Friday, January 13, 2017.
Patricia was a lifetime resident of Angelina County. She graduated from Diboll High School in 1963 and earned Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Stephen F. Austin State University. She was also an adjunct professor at Angelina College for several years. She taught Home Economics, Family and Consumer Sciences, and Culinary Arts at Hudson High School for 20 years. While at Hudson her students won numerous awards for Culinary Arts.
Her ministry in life was service to others. That included loving and caring for her family. She loved her children and grandchildren, and was proud of them all. And that extended into the classroom as well. She was passionate about working with children one-on-one and loved working with the “underdog student”. She treated her students as if they were her own. They affectionately referred to her as “Miss P”.
Patricia was a member of McKindree Baptist Church. She enjoyed attending sunday school and cooking for her church family.
Survivors include her husband, Steven Berry of Hudson; daughter, Mary Stanley Poret of Hudson; son, Curtis Lee Stanley of Hudson; daughter, Jennifer Stanley Oliver and husband Charles of Hudson; stepsons, Steven Berry, Jr. and wife Star of Houston, Todd Berry and wife Beth of Hudson, Wisconsin, Bryan Berry and wife Jennifer of Houston; stepdaughters, Beth Clackley and husband Nick and Kimberlee Berry, all of Houston; grandchildren, Zachary William Poret, Matthew Christopher Oliver, Alyssa Rene Wise Stanley, and Rebekah Grace Poret; 11 step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Jean Parten Jones of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter-in-law, Charlotte Faye Stanley.
Pallbearers will be Charles Oliver, Matthew Oliver, Billy Ferguson, Joe Fountain, Steven Berry, Jr., Bryan Berry, Nick Clackley, and Cary Griffith.
Honorary pallbearers will be David Berry and Zachary Poret.
Memorial contributions may be made to McKindree Baptist Church, 557 McKindree Road, Lufkin, Texas 75901.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
