Graveside services for Vance Howard Roberts, 85, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park with Jim Vaughn officiating.
Mr. Roberts was born August 20, 1931 in San Angelo, Texas to the late Inez Myrtle (Brown) and Henry Forrest Roberts, and died Monday, January 2, 2017 in Nacogdoches.
Mr. Roberts grew up in San Angelo and graduated from San Angelo Junior College in May of 1954 with his Associates Degree. He served in the United States Navy and retired from the United States Postal Service as a Mail Carrier. He had a unique wit and a love of jokes. Many people knew him by his greetings. He tackled everything at one speed – Fast. Mr. Roberts was extremely involved at his church. He was a member of Fourth and Groesbeck Church of Christ and was a Deacon for a number of years. He was a member of many civic and historical associations and he loved watching western and crime shows.
Survivors include his daughter, Debra K. Roach Jarvis; great-nieces, Sabrina Lumpkin and husband Kevin of Lufkin, Cheri Coleman and husband Craig of Diboll; sister-in-law, Bobbie Lee (Hutson) McBride of Riverside; grandson, Colton Jarvis; nephew, Carey Donald McBride and wife Bonnie of Rochelle; great-nieces and nephews and their spouses, Camille and Joseph Meador of Riverside, Jordan and Desiree McBride of Austin, Jason and Vanessa McBride of Kyle, Brandon Cooper of Riverside, Shane Looney of Austin; great-great-nieces and nephews and their spouses, Lacy and Dylan Oliver of Bridge City, Cody and Erin Weisinger of Caldwell, Zachary Lumpkin of Lufkin, Dylan Coleman, and Daulton Coleman, both of Diboll, Joey Meador of Riverside; and great-great-great- nephews, Braxton Oliver and Hutson Oliver, both of Bridge City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, L. Sue Roberts; brother, Forrest Donald Roberts; nephew, Tommy Harold McBride; niece, Sharon Sue Anders; and brother-in-law, J. T. McBride.
