Joseph Jennings Peppard, Sr. was born December 14, 1933 in Alvin, Texas to the late Carlos Hilton Peppard and Thelma Elizabeth (Davis) Peppard, and died Tuesday, December 20, 2016 in Huntington.
The Peppard family moved back to Lufkin, Texas shortly after his birth. He grew up in Lufkin and graduated with the class of 1952, a very close knit class. While in school, Joe was an avid athlete participating in football, basketball, baseball and tennis. He attended Sam Houston, but received his BS Degree from Stephen F. Austin State University. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army. Retire was not in his vocabulary. He enjoyed working and making things happen. He always had a project going.
Mr. Peppard owned and operated Gulf Coast Truck Trailer Sales, Inc. for 50 years in Houston, Texas. It is still open and going strong with long time, loyal employees. He was in Houston at his desk the week he became ill. He stayed really busy managing Rocking JP Ranch, chicken houses, commercial rental property in Houston and Lufkin, plus various business interests. He was very loyal to employees as they are and were to him. Very few knew of the numerous down on the luck people he helped over the years. Clothing his wife and daughter was his hobby.
He was a member of the Brahman Breeders Association, the 100 Club of Houston and various truck and trailer associations. He was a staunch Republican and was so happy Trump won.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara Peppard, beloved son, Joseph Jennings Peppard, Jr. and wife Cintya; their babies, Joseph Carlos (2) and Jack Nicolas (6 mos.); his beloved grandsons, Jennings Davis Sanders (17) and Turner Joseph Sanders (11), son-in-law, Roger A.
