Memorial services for Gene A. Dorsett, Sr., 79, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mark Livingston officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home. Mr. Dorsett was born January 8, 1937 in Nacogdoches, Texas to the late Alice Maxine (Mitchell) and Jessie Dorsett, and died Sunday, December 18, 2016 in a local nursing home. Mr. Dorsett had resided in Lufkin most of his life. He attended the General Motors Training Center, and took technical courses at Texas A&M. Mr. Dorsett worked five years at Brookshire Brothers in the refrigeration department, five years at Texas Power and Light, and then owned and operated Dorsett Refrigeration for 25 years. He also worked for 10 years at Kirby Restaurant Supply. Mr. Dorsett was a member of Keltys First Baptist Church. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Lori Dorsett of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Chuck Young of Nederland; sons and daughter-in-law, Michael Skelton of Lufkin and Glenn and Cecile Skelton of Alabama; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Michael Orr of Arkansas; grandsons, Trey Dorsett of Nacogdoches, Tanner Dorsett of Lufkin, Jesse Young of Nederland, and Sam Skelton of Alabama; granddaughters, Hayley Young of Nederland and Sarah Battles and husband Bret of Alabama; great-grandson, Jace Dorsett of Nacogdoches; sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and David King of Nacogdoches; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Beverly Dorsett of California; friend, Janice Gill of Lufkin; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Memorial contributions may be made to the Winnie Berry Animal Shelter, c/o Humane Society of Angelina County, P.O. Box 472, Lufkin, Texas 75902. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Thursday morning prior to the services.
