Alvaro Alvarez

Memorial services for Alvaro Alvarez, 69, of Huntington will be held Sunday, December 18, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Brother Alex Gonzales officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Mr. Alvarez was born February 19, 1947 in Piedras Negras Coah., Mexico to the late Teresa (Rodriguez) and Jose Alvarez Lopez, and died Thursday, December 15, 2016 in a local hospice facility.

Mr. Alvarez had resided in Angelina County for 38 years. He was a devoted employee at Lufkin Industries for 30 years. He had a love of music and dancing, and was a hard worker and a doting father and grandfather. Mr. Alvarez was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Jose and Veronica Alvarez of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Dalia and Jesus Garcia, Claudia and Shawn Sweetwood, all of Lufkin, and Gabriela and Pedro Buenrostro of Pollok; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandson; sisters, Maria Del Carmen Rodriguez, Maria Guadalupe Rodriguez, both of Mexico, and Araceli Alvarez De Sanchez of Uvalde; brothers, Guillermo Roberto Alvarez Rodriguez of Mexico, Juan Sergio Alvarez Rodriguez of Plainview, Marco Antonio Alvarez Rodriguez of Mexico, and Javier Mario Alvarez of Uvalde; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Raquel Alvarez; father, Jose Alvarez Lopez; mother, Teresa (Rodriguez) Guzman; and brother, Jose Alvarez Rodriguez.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday evening prior to the services.
