Barbara Sue Kirkland

Memorial Services for Barbara Sue Kirkland, 73, of Lufkin will be held Sunday, December 18, 2016 at 2:00pm at Southside Baptist Church with Pastor Randy Brown officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday, December 17, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Southside Baptist Church.

Mrs. Kirkland was born February 15, 1943 in Lufkin, Texas, where she has lived since birth. She passed away Thursday, December 15, 2016 at Memorial Hospital in the care of Hospice in the Pines.

Barbara Sue, as she was known to her husband, David Kirkland, of 53 years as well as family and friends was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She attended Southside Baptist Church where she loved her Sunday School Class and serving others.

Mrs. Kirkland loved time with her family, cooking for them and spending time at the beach. She also loved camping with her husband David, traveling and sewing.

Mrs. Kirkland was preceded in death by her parents Odell and Winnie Mills; grandson, Jacob Runnels; sister, Bobbie Mills; and brothers, Bill Mills and Delton Mills.

Barbara is survived by her husband, David Kirkland; daughters and sons-in-law, Davelyn and Richard Runnels of Lufkin, Anna and James Morrica of Lufkin, and daughter, Emily Metzger of Dallas; daughter in Christ, Karen Harden of Palestine; grandchildren, Jessica and Luke Whittlesey of Pearland, Jordan Runnels of Lufkin, Kevin McMullen, Jr. of Lufkin, Jonathan Dewberry of Lufkin, Sarah and Neela Metzger of Dallas; great-grandchildren, Jasper and Truitt Whittlesey of Pearland; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Allan Upchurch of Allen; niece, Tanya Clark of Chicago, Illinois; and nephews, James Mills and Tommy Mills of Lufkin.
