Barbara Pattillo Bates

Funeral services for Barbara Pattillo Bates, 71, of Zavalla will be held Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Linley Ham officiating. Interment will follow in the Concord Cemetery near Zavalla. Mrs. Bates was born February 4, 1945 in Beaumont, Texas to the late Jessie (Walton) and David B. Pattillo, and died Sunday, December 11, 2016 in Lufkin with her loved ones by her side. Mrs. Bates had resided in Lufkin for the past two years, formerly living in Zavalla for many years, which she still considered home. She was a Management Support Specialist for the Texas Rehabilitation Commission for over 23 years. Mrs. Bates loved arts and crafts, loved to fish, and she loved her kids, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Concord Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Tammie and Roy Johnson of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, David and Denice Bates of Huntsville; grandsons, Justin McDonald of Lufkin, Brandon Freeman of Gatesville, Dusty Freeman and wife Amber of Evant, Brennen Bates and wife Candice of Willis, Dalton Humphrey, Bearen Bates, and Baylen Bates, all of Huntsville; great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Rylie, Daniel, Cadence, Ka’tara, Rachel, Moriah, and Cason; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Sandra Pattillo of Lumberton; brother-in-law, Gary Whittman of Arkansas; special friends, Linda and Merle Nail of Beaumont; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack Bates in 2011; grandson, Jacob Johnson; and sister, Sue Whittman. Pallbearers will be Brandon Freeman, Dusty Freeman, Dalton Humphrey, Bearen Bates, David Earl Walton, Jim Ryan, and Kristopher Allen. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Imran Nazeer, Dr. Jansen Todd, and Dr. Prashant Kumar. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the funeral home.
