Funeral services for James H. “Pete” Sargent, 92, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jerry Burnaman and Pastor Mark Livingston officiating. Interment will follow in the Blue Springs Cemetery in Etoile. Mr. Sargent was born February 27, 1924 in Etoile, Texas to the late James Eugene and Lydia (Atkinson) Sargent, and died Sunday, December 4, 2016 in a local hospice facility. Mr. Sargent proudly served in the US. Army during World War II and the Korean War. He lived in Houston for 32 years, where he worked at the Veteran’s Hospital, but always considered Etoile his home. Mr. Sargent enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, and traveling to Gospel and Blue Grass festivals with his wife and close friends. He was a Christian man who loved God, his wife and family. He was a kind and loving person who often gave God the credit for a long and happy life. Mr. Sargent was a member of Keltys First Baptist Church. He is at home with his Lord, and will be missed by his family and many close friends. Ruth would like to thank all his family and friends, his pastor (Mark Livingston) and his family, and their church family for all their visits and prayers. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Ruth Sargent of Lufkin; brother, Charles “Gip” Sargent and wife Rhama of Conroe; sister, Delois Alvis of Huntington; sister-in-law, Katherine Sargent of Memphis; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Clinton “Man” Sargent and Lloyd “Curly” Sargent. The family would appreciate any donation on Mr. Sargent’s behalf go to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904. They were so loving and professional during his hospice stay. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Wednesday morning prior to the services.
