Funeral services for Marceline M. Groth Pennington, 88, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, December 8, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Rick Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Mrs. Pennington was born April 5, 1928 in Saxman, Kansas to the late George Fredrick and Jennie Eva (Stokes) Groth, and died Monday, December 5, 2016 in a local hospital. Mrs. Pennington graduated from the Halstead Hospital School of Nursing in Halstead, Kansas in 1949. She served in the U.S. Navy as a nurse from 1950 until her marriage September 19, 1952. Mrs. Pennington had resided in Lufkin since 1957, where she continued a rewarding career with Dr. A.B. Connell, and then as an industrial nurse for Southland Paper Mill until her retirement. Mrs. Pennington was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. Survivors include her sister, Jenese Groth of Lufkin; sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Carrie Pennington of Bethlehem, Georgia, Bob and Diane Pennington, Jon and Kari Pennington, all of Lufkin; granddaughters, Jennifer Habets and husband Jared of Savannah, Georgia, Kayce Williams and husband Jett of Statesboro, Georgia, Erin Hammock and husband Josh of Gray, Georgia, and Marcie Pennington of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; grandsons, Payton Pennington and wife Amanda of Murray, Kentucky, Evan Pennington and Ethan Pennington, both of Lufkin; and great-grandsons, Will Habets, Ben Habets of Savannah, Georgia, Quinn Williams, Noah Williams and Trust Williams of Statesboro, Georgia, Henry Hammock and Amos Hammock of Gray, Georgia, and Luke Pennington of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William T. “Bill” Pennington; and brother, Gordon Groth. Pallbearers will be her family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Lyle Carpenter, Bruce Bain, John Holt, Travis McLin, Andy Pennington, and Ken McPherson. The family extends special thanks to Mrs. Pennington’s nurses and caregivers. Memorial contributions may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice, 209 Christie Street, Lufkin, Texas 75904 or St. Paul’s United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 1505 S. John Redditt Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75904. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
