John Ferguson Squyres

Graveside services for John Ferguson Squyres, 78, of Cypress will be held Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. in the Fairview Cemetery with Reverend Kristin Bogart officiating.

John was born May 6, 1938 in Huntington, Texas to the late Clinton and Essie (Ferguson) Squyres. He passed away Saturday, December 3, 2016 in Houston.

John graduated from Lufkin High School in 1956. He served in the National Guard of Texas from 1958-1961. He was a salesman for several companies, before opening Squyres Realty in the 1970’s. John and Barbara ran B&J Nursery in Navasota before moving to Cypress in 2001. John was a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church, and was a very active member of the D. Bradley McWilliams YMCA at Cypress Creek.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Squyres; first wife, JoAnn Shoup and Phil Schmuck; daughters, Melony Davis and husband Charles and Courtney West and husband Butch; stepsons, Jack Hopkins and wife Anna, Todd Hopkins and wife Yvette, and Justin Pate and wife Karina; nine grandchildren, Braden Thomas and wife Whitney, Samantha Ellis, Dillon Thomas and wife Katherine, Morgan Ashworth and husband James, Stuart West, Ashley Lara and husband Paul, Jennifer Hopkins, Tristan Hopkins, and Trevor Hopkins; great-grandson, Charles Thomas; sister, Theo Blewer and husband Norman; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Clinton Robert Squyres, Jr.; and sisters, Ragna Burnett and Edna Mae Havard.
