Shirlee Jean Brookshire

Memorial services for Shirlee Jean Brookshire, 82, of Lufkin will be held Sunday, December 4, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bob Klund officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel, with a Celebration of Life reception immediately following the Memorial Service at Believer’s Bible Church, 408 South Medford in Lufkin.

Mrs. Brookshire was born November 18, 1934 in Houston, Texas and moved to Lufkin at the age of ten. She passed away peacefully at her home in Lufkin Thursday December 1, 2016.

Shirlee, as she was known to her many friends (and GG to her only great-grandson) was a loving, caring Daughter, Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. She was a graduate of Lufkin High School and later attended The University of Texas and North Texas State University (now University of North Texas). Mrs. Brookshire was a woman of great faith and a long-time member of Believer’s Bible Church of Lufkin.

Shirlee loved spending time with family and friends, and traveled extensively. Whether it was traveling to the Mediterranean with her granddaughter Courtney, visiting Australia and New Zealand with her husband, driving cross-country on a Route 66 Road Trip or simply playing bridge with her favorite bridge group, Shirlee’s zest for life and bright smile always shined through. One of her favorite ways to build memories with her grand-kids was to drive around the family farm on the UTV, just talking and taking in the moments. Shirlee also shared her love of music, often singing with her grandchildren to the music of her player piano.

Mrs. Brookshire is survived by her loving husband, Eugene Brookshire; daughter, LeeAnn Brookshire and Alton Knight of Lufkin; son, Joel Brookshire and wife Carla of Crosby, Texas; granddaughter, Courtney Blum and husband Justin of Dallas, Texas; grandson, Jonathan Hale and wife Katie of Dallas, Texas; grandson, Travis Hale of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; granddaughter, Cali Brookshire of Crosby; great-grandson, Brooks Blum of Dallas; sisters-in-law, Dot Brookshire and Ann McCurry of Lufkin; and a host of nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

Shirlee was preceded in death by her parents, Virginia “Ginger” and Bayo Hopper, and her youngest son David Austin Brookshire.
