Funeral services for Marie Hanks Parise’, 92, of Lufkin will be held Friday, December 2, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Cindy Doran officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Mrs. Parise’ was born at her parent’s home on May 4, 1924 in Keltys, Texas to the late James Garland and Elizabeth (Murray) Hanks, and died Tuesday, November 29, 2016 in Lufkin. Marie lived in Lufkin most all of her life and was married for 49 years to Louis Dan Parise’, Jr. from Hudson. They had two children, Garland Louis Parise’ and Sally Jo Parise’. During her lifetime, Marie was a member of many groups including the Ladies Auxiliary VFW 1836 and the Ladies American Legion Auxiliary since 1943. She was a charter member of the Lufkin High School Alumni Association (graduate of 1941), and served many years of the reunion committees. Marie was also a member of the Lufkin Pilot Club, Eastern Star Lodge #1035, the Statue of Liberty Ellis Island Foundation, and the National D-Day Museum of New Orleans. She had many ‘careers’ during her lifetime, as a young woman, Marie worked at the Consolidated Aircraft Factory in Fort Worth during WWII as a ‘Rosie the Riveter”, and she had four other roommates from Lufkin with her-it was a time she remembered fondly. She also worked for many years at First Bank & Trust in Lufkin, the Chrysler-Plymouth dealership (with Mr. Warren as Owner), and then at Coca-Cola Bottling Company where she retired following 35 plus years of service. She was a member of Keltys Methodist Church (before it became United), since 1932 and worked as the church secretary for a few years following her retirement. Survivors include her daughter, Sally Jo Parise’ and husband Brian Petty of Rockwall, TX; daughter-in-law, Alice Parise’ of Lufkin; grandchildren: Mistie Johnson and husband Kevin, Ashley Parise’, all of Lufkin, Aislyn Garbs of Rockwall, TX, Justin Petty and Joshua Petty, both of Garland, TX, and Joyia Petty of New Jersey; great-grandson, Caleb Murray; great granddaughter, JaLynn Acosta, both of Lufkin; sister-in-law, Katie Hayter of Lufkin; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, good neighbors and former co-workers and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Dan Parise, Jr., son, Garland Louis (Bubba) Parise’, her brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles J. and Eloise (Weeks) Hanks and Gerald M. and Lillian “Tex” (Sears) Hanks, sisters-in-law and husbands, Irene Parise’ and Jim Murphy and Virginia Parise’ and Womack Hathorn, special cousin and wife, Joe Ed and Ida Scott Murray. Pallbearers will be Ernie Murray, Jim Hanks, Charles Murphy, Jason Murphy, Caleb Murray, and Kevin Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Glenn Lenderman, David Terry, Steve Hicks, and Robert Banks, Jr. Memorial contributions may be made to Keltys United Methodist Church, 508 McMullen St., Lufkin, TX 75904, The Joseph House 5783 FM 841, Lufkin, TX 75901 or the charity of your choice. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
