She spent the last eight years in a local nursing facility due to Alzheimer’s disease. “Evelyn”, as she was known, was born in Osage County, Oklahoma on July 13, 1925. Evelyn loved the Lord and obeyed the Gospel early in her life. She was generous in supporting evangelism and those preaching the gospel both in her community and in mission efforts abroad. She was a member of the Angelina Church of Christ. Evelyn married James “Jake” McCulloch in 1945 and worked together with him in a bakery in Memphis, Texas, and a restaurant in Gilbert, Arizona. They had been married 60 years when he passed away in 2005. She loved to travel and took many trips around the United States and Europe with her best friend, Margie Oldham, sister, June Moore and mother, Ethel Berry. She was a wonderful cook and loved preparing meals for family and friends. Her love of bold fashion pieces mimicked her vivacious personality. Evelyn was very generous in nature and especially loved to dote on her three granddaughters. She is survived by her daughter, Donnah Crater of Lufkin; brother, Delmer Berry and wife, Elizabeth of San Angelo; granddaughters, Julie Shockley and husband Curtis of Kilgore, Melinda Hartman and husband Michael of Lufkin, Kimberly Weine and husband Eric of Austin; great-grandchildren, David, Alex, Regan, and Loren Shockley, Claire and Emily Hartman, Atticus and Remi Weine; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at PineCrest Retirement Community Center as well as Affinity Hospice for their excellent care during her last years. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to India Evangelism, c/o Angelina Church of Christ, PO Box 153238, Lufkin, Texas, 75915.
