Funeral services for Albert Terry, Jr., 89, of Apple Springs will be held Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Calvary Baptist Church in Nogalus Prairie with Brother James Whittlesey and Reverend Max Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery.
Mr. Terry was born August 13, 1927 in Trinity County, Texas to the late Edna (Eddington) and Albert S. Terry, Sr., and died Friday, November 25, 2016 at his residence.
Mr. Terry grew up in Trinity County and graduated from Apple Springs High School. He served in the United States Army from 1950-1953, during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Temple Industries, Gipson Funeral Home/Garden of Memories Memorial Park, the City of Lufkin, and then retired from Griffith Engineering in 2004. He loved working outside, RVing, and his little excursions in his jeep. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was a past member of Loop 287 Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Doris Jean Terry of Apple Springs; daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry Streidel and James of Needville, Brenda Gandy and Wayne of Tyler; daughter, Rebecca Terry of Houston; stepson and daughter-in-law, Kevin Parker and Meghann of Groveton; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Rhonda Morris and Mark of Groveton, five grandchildren, three step grandchildren, Daxten Parker, Darbi Parker, and Summer Morris; three great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law and spouses, Nelda and Herman Starling of Pasadena, Melba and Don Beard of Crockett, Debby and George Duren of Lufkin; special nephew, Jimmy Taylor; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Edwina Fenley, Mary Lee Taylor and Vernece Parrot; brother and sister-in-law, Leroy Terry and Elizabeth.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Taylor, Oscar Crawford, Rayford Davis, Lewis Davis, O’Neal Davis, Lynn Prothro, and David Terry.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Berry, Loyd Cook, Coy Minshew, Donnie Davis, Jerry Ainsworth, Tucker Westerman, and Dwayne Tullos.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas, 75904, or Calvary Cemetery, in c/o Betty Wright, 1011 Spur 357, Kennard, Texas, 75847.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon prior to the service.
