Jimmy Dale Lofton

Funeral services for Jimmy Dale Lofton, 56, of Huntington, will be held Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Brother David Merritt officiating. Interment will follow in the Bennett Cemetery in Trinity County. Mr. Lofton was born physically on September 17, 1960, in Monroe, Louisiana, and spiritually on January 24, 1976. He was the son of John Lofton and Dixie Adams Lofton. He died Monday, November 14, 2016 at his residence in Huntington. Mr. Lofton worked in Management for Brookshire Grocery Company for 12 years in Louisiana. He retired from Huntington ISD following 18 years of teaching 7th grade math and driving a school bus. He cared deeply for his students and prayed daily for each one. He was an avid hunter and shared his passion in each and every season. Mr. Lofton loved the Lord and served Him faithfully as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher for 32 years. He and his family were currently attending Parkview Baptist Church. Mr. Lofton is survived by his wife of 35 years, Melinda Dowell Lofton of Huntington; son, Ethan Lofton, and granddaughter Leighton Tenley Lofton of Lufkin; brothers, Rick Lofton, Jay Lofton and wife Teresa, all of Monroe, Louisiana; sister, Gwin Marlin and husband Dave of Chandler; special mother, Louise Dowell of Monroe, Louisiana; brothers, Browning Dowell of Nicholasville, Kentucky, and Peyton Dowell of Monroe, Louisiana; special brother, Charles Richards of Monroe, Louisiana; and a host of other family and friends. Mr. Lofton was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bill Lofton; and special brother, Jerry Wood. Pallbearers will be Jarrod Wood, Joe Wood, Matt Clifton, Shane Stover, Austin Clark, and Adam Merritt. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Lofton requested that memorial contributions may be made to The Gideons International, Lufkin West Camp, P.O. Box 1831, Lufkin, Texas 75904, to spread God’s Word. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
