Cherie Ann Kumetat

Memorial services for Cherie Ann Kumetat, 51, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Baptist Church with Brother Kenneth Mayo officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Ms. Kumetat was born November 14, 1964 in Sonora, California to Ellaine (Good) and the late Larry Dowler, and died Thursday, October 20, 2016 in Lufkin.

Ms. Kumetat had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh. She was tough but had a kind heart. She would go out of her way to help someone in need. She never met a stranger and every friend was considered family to her. She loved music, often calling it her therapy. She was the happiest when she was surrounded by her dogs and nature. She preferred wildflowers over store bought flowers. Her favorite things to do were searching for arrowhead shaped rocks on riverbeds and seashells on the beach. Ms. Kumetat’s father was a Vietnam Veteran serving in the United States Army. The family moved around quite a bit, even living in Germany for a short time. Her dream was to own her own Harley and travel the country with her dogs. Ms. Kumetat was a marvel at cooking. She was the master of taking practically nothing and turning it into a culinary masterpiece.

Survivors include her fiance’, Philip Smith of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Rash and Zachary Mayo of Lufkin; stepdaughters Whitney Smith and Aleisha Smith, both of Dallas; mother, Elaine Blosser of Modesto, California; brother, Vincent Dowler of Lodi, California; grandmother, Doris Good of Modesto, California; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Larry Dowler; and grandparents, Sumner Good and Charles and Helen Dowler.
