Bobby Ray Childers

Memorial services for Bobby Ray Childers, 82, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, November 3, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Lufkin First Assembly with Pastor Stephen Courtney and Pastor Jeremy Yancey officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Mr. Childers was born September 28, 1934 in Ellisville, Mississippi, the son of the late Idell (Carlisle) and Herb Childers. He died Sunday, October 30, 2016 in a Lufkin hospital.

Mr. Childers had worked for Insulators Local 22 for 50 years as an Insulator/Job Supervisor in Houston and all over the Midwest. He had served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Childers was a story teller, and loved to hunt, fish, play dominoes, golf, bowl, and work in his yard. He was a member of Lufkin First Assembly.

Survivors include his wife, Reba Childers of Lufkin; children and their spouses, Sherri and Keith Hays of Liberty Hill, Texas, Tony Childers of Elkhorn, Nebraska, Anna and Larry Lagsding of Papillion, Nebraska, Margie and Tracey Turrentine of Deer Park, and Robert and Laura Childers of La Vista, Nebraska; stepsons and their wives, Ray and Diane Gayle of Pipe Creek, Texas, and Duke and Patty Humphrey of Jonesboro, Arkansas; grandchildren, Cody and wife Meghan, Samantha, Sydney, Carley, Halle, Alysha and husband Josh, Kirsten, Ryan and wife Marisa, Jordan and wife Courtney, Cole, Kendall, Megan, Amanda, Caitlin, Wade and wife Karyn, Zach, and Dylan; eleven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Betty Childers; special nieces, Elaine and Tommie; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; previous wife, Shirley Hinton Childers; stepson, Terry Martin; sisters, Margie Nell, Laverne and Eunice; brother, Leguin; and an infant sister.
