Funeral services for Floyd Jones, 83, of Lufkin, will be held Monday, October 31, 2016 at 12 noon in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Rick Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Union Cemetery. Mr. Jones was born May 23, 1933 in Hagerville, Texas, the son of the late Ollie (Minton) and Homer Jones. He died Thursday, October 27, 2016 at his residence in Lufkin. Mr. Jones retired from Lufkin Industries as a machine shop manager, following more than 34 years of service. He served his country in the United States Army. Mr. Jones was a member of the Wallace Chapel Church, and had lived in Lufkin most of his life. He loved to fish and hunt, and to sit and drink coffee on the porch with family and friends. Mr. Jones never met a stranger. He had a great sense of humor and a quick wit. He was a person who enjoyed life, was always positive and upbeat, and dearly loved his family. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Carolyn Jones of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Tracy and Laura Jones of Lufkin; daughters and son-in-law, Vicky and Delwin Shoemaker, and Gail Brasuell, all of Lufkin; sister, Gladys Mettlen of Diboll; twelve grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his son, Mike Jones, and sister, Reba Miller. Pallbearers will be Dustin Shoemaker, Dwayne Shoemaker, John Courtney, Cody Jones, Jacob Jones, and Dylan Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be his former co-workers at Lufkin Industries. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
