James Oscar Eddington

Funeral services for James Oscar Eddington, 79, of Lufkin will be held Friday, October 21, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Kyle Campbell and Jim McDonald officiating. Interment will follow in the Mount Zion Cemetery in Apple Springs. Mr. Eddington was born December 22, 1936 in Trinity County, Texas, the son of the late Revis Bessie (Warren) and Winston Eddington. He died Monday, October 17, 2016 in a Lufkin hospice facility. Mr. Eddington was a retired melting supervisor for Texas Foundries and a retired rancher. He grew up in Trinity County but had lived in Lufkin since 1958. Mr. Eddington was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. He was a member of Loop 287 Church of Christ. Survivors include his daughter, Susan Castro, husband Jorge, and their children, Ryan, Alexia and Macie, of Lufkin; his son, Winston Paul Eddington and wife Sherry, and their children, Darrell and Bethany, of Apple Springs; sister and brother-in-law, Wincie Nell and Jimmy Pate of Apple Springs; sister-in-law, Judy Smith of Crockett; brother-in-law, Barney Smith of Clear Lake; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives; and Cocoa, his tiny toy poodle. Mr. Eddington was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 50 years, Suellen Smith Eddington; four year old sister, Minnie Carolyn Eddington; parents-in-law, Lillian Ines Garrison Smith and Bellwood Lister Smith; brothers-in-laws, Richard “Dick” Bellwood Smith and wife Allison, and Robert Calvin Smith; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Smith. Pallbearers will be Payton Pate, Paul Eddington, Mark Oliver, Joseph Oliver, Ryan Castro, and Darrell Elkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas DuBose, James “Speedy” Marze, Reagan Kelsey, Bobby Pinner, Donald Lee Roach, Jimmy Pate, Tommy Wells, Doyle Pate, and Rodney Paulette. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 212 Gene Samford Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75904, or to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
