Memorial services for Mildred Carolyn Sloan, 73, of Zavalla will be held Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Zavalla First Baptist Church with Pastor Stephen Forrest and Brother Louie Lawson officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.
Mrs. Sloan was born February 2, 1943 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Bryce and Katherine (Weeks) Squyres, and died Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at her residence.
Mrs. Sloan had resided in Zavalla for 14 years. She previously lived in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where she worked as a cake decorator and as a stocker and checker for a department store. Mrs. Sloan was a member of Zavalla First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Harold Bruce Sloan of Zavalla; daughter, Kim Sloan of Diboll; grandson, Tony “Bubba” Sloan, Jr. of Gainesville; granddaughters, Lacy Sloan of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Kristin James and husband Matthew of Groveton, Andrea “Andy” Perez and husband Joel of Hudson; great-granddaughter, Katie Sloan of Gainesville; great-grandsons, Jessie James and Frank James, both of Groveton; sister, Kay Moss of Lufkin; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ricky and Nancy Squyres of Zavalla, Reggie and Deborah Squyres, Rodney and Reba Squyres, all of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Tony Sloan; and brother, Bob Squyres.
