Funeral services for Athena Looper Petty, 80, of Hudson will be held Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Eugene Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in the Largent Cemetery. Mrs. Petty was born August 6, 1936 in Bentley, Louisiana to the late Letha (Mosley) and Solomon Wesley Looper, and died Saturday, October 8, 2016 at her residence. She had resided in Hudson since 1978 and was a teacher at Lufkin ISD for 20 years. Survivors include her son, William Petty, Jr. of Hudson; daughter and son-in-law, Giela and Otis Brieden of Lufkin; granddaughter, Jennifer Rudel of Lufkin; grandson, Richard Rudel, Jr. of Lufkin; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dr. William R. Petty; brothers, Alton Looper and Rayford Looper; and sisters, Verna Mae Bostwick, Margie Boyett and Verla Moss. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 412 S. 3rd Street, Lufkin, Texas 75901 or the Angelina Arts Alliance, P.O. Box 152634, Lufkin, Texas 75915. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon prior to the services.
