Rebekah Rose Bruce Castleberry

January 8, 1924 — September 19, 2016

Funeral services for Rebekah Rose Bruce Castleberry, 92, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Central Church of Christ in Lufkin with Tim Henderson and Reverend Randall K. Green officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Harry C. Castleberry, Sr.

Mrs. Castleberry was born January 8, 1924 in Lufkin, Texas to the late William Lonzo Bruce and Evie Mae (Scogin) Bruce, and died Monday, September 19, 2016. She was the youngest of eight children.

Mrs. Castleberry was a lifelong resident of Lufkin and a member of Central Church of Christ. While she spent a very small portion of her early childhood growing up in Wells, she graduated from Lufkin High School in 1941. Her high school friends called her Betsy Rose and still lovingly refer to her by that name. But to others who knew her throughout her wonderful life, she was usually known as Beck or Becky. To her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was Mana.

Everyone who knew Harry and Betsy Rose in high school still talks about what great dancers they were. And her love of dancing never ended. Until just a few years ago, she was a regular line dancer ant either Thompson’s School of Dance or the Lufkin Parks & Recreation line dancing classes. Singing was her other passion. She loved to sing with her brothers and sisters and could often be heard singing with a Karaoke machine on her patio, a place she loved more than any other. Through her love of singing, she helped form a local Sweet Adelines chapter. The Lufkin Sweet Adelines performed at many local civic clubs, community events, and nursing homes. But of all her loves and passions, family was first and foremost, and even though she worked tirelessly helping Harry accomplish his dream of starting Castleberry’s Furniture Showroom, being a wife and mom was job one.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Cooper and Julie Castleberry; son, Stan Castleberry; grandchildren and their spouses, Claire and Peter Hennessey of San Antonio, Anne and Tyler McCarty of Fort Worth, Harry Cooper “Trey” and Hillary Castleberry of The Woodlands; great-grandchildren, Julianne and John Hennessey of San Antonio and Kate McCarty of Fort Worth; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 52 years, Harry; brothers, Victor and Doyle Bruce; and sisters, Mae Parrish, Clifford Davison, Ruby Stubbs, Mamie Smith, and Hellen Atkison.

Pallbearers will be Trey Castleberry, Peter Hennessey, Tyler McCarty, James Slack, Jim Todd, and Meb Todd.

The family extends special thanks to the staff of PineCrest Retirement Community who took care of Mom for the last few years of her life...especially Trina and Melanie; your love for her was obvious and she loved you as well.

Memorial contributions may be made to Central Church of Christ, 711 N. Second Street, Lufkin, Texas 75901, or the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, 2222 Welborn Street, Dallas, Texas 75219.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Carroway Funeral Home.
