Evelyn Rushing Butler

Funeral services for Evelyn Rushing Butler, 85, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Charles M. Roberts and Brother Ron Meadows officiating. Interment will follow in the Walker Cemetery.

Mrs. Butler was born June 27, 1931 in Broaddus, Texas to the late Mae (Martin) and Oscar Edward Rushing, Sr., and died Saturday, September 10, 2016 at her residence.

Mrs. Butler had resided in Lufkin since 1972. She worked in retail for more than 25 years. She was an avid Houston Astros fan, and loved gardening. Mrs. Butler was a member of Denman Avenue Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Grant and Anna Butler of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Janis Butler, Robin and Seedy Nevills, all of Lufkin, and Becki and Dave Kendrick of Fort Worth; grandchildren and spouses, Jason and Crystal Butler, Lindsay and Kendall Thurman, Brandi Butler, Shelby and Jeremy Bryan, Holly Kendrick, and Hope Kendrick; step-grandchildren and spouses, Tina and Dwayne Turner and Bubba and Rachelle Nevills; great-grandchildren, Alyssa Butler, Jordan and Brooke Kee, Claire and Weston Bryan, and Cooper Thurman; four step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jean Rushing of Lufkin; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Drayton Butler; and brother, Oscar “Sonny” Rushing, Jr.

Pallbearers will be Seedy Nevills, Jeremy Bryan, Kendall Thurman, Jason Butler, Larry Kendrick, and Dave Kendrick.

The family extends special thanks to Dr. Jansen Todd, Dr. Jose Capellan, Dr. M. Khan, caretaker Mary Pyle, and Hospice in the Pines for their care of Mrs. Butler.
