James "Jim" E. Richardson

Funeral services for James E. “Jim” Richardson, 84, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Reverend Mark Newton officiating. Masonic graveside services will follow under the auspices of the Wells Masonic Lodge #915 A.F. & A.M. at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Wells, Texas.

Mr. Richardson was born November 19, 1931 in Alto, Texas to the late Robert Porter and Fronye (McLeroy) Richardson and died Sunday, August 7, 2016 in Houston, Texas.

Mr. Richardson grew up in Alto and Wells, and then resided in Lufkin for most of his life. He graduated from Lufkin Independent School District in 1949 and from Texas A&M University in 1953 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He served with the United States Army Corps of Engineers from September 1953 until June 1955, including a tour in Korea. He retired after a 30 plus year career with Southland/Champion Paper Mill including Engineering, Maintenance, and 6 years as Mill Manager. Mr. Richardson was dedicated to his family, and he enjoyed fishing with his children and grandchildren. He volunteered as Assistant Scout Master for Troop #136 in Lufkin for 12 years. He was a member of the Wells Masonic Lodge for over 60 years and received the Golden Trowel Award from the Grand Lodge of Texas. He also helped the Mt. Hope Cemetery computerize their maps and records. He enjoyed travelling with his wife and friends in the Angelina Sams and Lufkin Sams chapters of the Good Sams Club. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Lufkin and a proud and faithful Aggie fan. The thing he loved the most in life was his family, especially his grandchildren, and he will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Christene Richardson of Lufkin; sons and daughters-in-law, James M. and Cheryl Richardson of Houston and Eric and Kimberly Richardson of Cypress; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Brent Cooper of Houston; grandchildren, Andrew and Susan Richardson of College Station, John Richardson of Huntsville, Mark Richardson, Kyle Cooper, Jake Cooper and Brian Cooper, all of Houston; great-grandchildren, Rebecca and Daniel Richardson of College Station; brother and sister-in-law, Loyd and Eloise Richardson of Lufkin; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Robert B., Tommy, Joe Mark, and Johnie Richardson.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Richardson, John Richardson, Mark Richardson, John Robert Richardson, Mike Richardson, and Brent Cooper.

Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Doss and Ray Trantham.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Lufkin, 106 E. Bremond Ave., Lufkin, Texas 75901; Mt. Hope Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 901 Wells, Texas 75976; or the charity of your choice.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
