Iva Nell Thornton

Funeral services for Iva Nell Thornton, 86, of Huntington will be held Thursday, July 21, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington with Luther Bolenbarker and Brian Boyett officiating. Interment will follow in the Jonesville Cemetery.

Mrs. Thornton was born October 29, 1929 in Angelina County, Texas to the late Charlie Edward Walker and Roxie Ann (Ivy) Walker, and died Tuesday, July 19, 2016 in a local nursing home.

Mrs. Thornton was a lifetime resident of Angelina County. She attended Ora and Huntington schools and worked as an aide at the Lufkin State School for 17 years. Mrs. Thornton was known for her memory, especially names and significant dates. She was a member of Huntington Church of Christ.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Sereta Thornton and Steve and Debra Thornton, all of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Ernest Boyett of Huntington; grandsons and their wives, Blake Thornton of Lufkin, Clay and Melissa Thornton of Tyler, Brian and Kristyn Boyett of Newnan, Georgia, and Stuart Thornton of Escondido, California; granddaughters and their husbands, Stacee and Adam Andrews of Port Hueneme, California, Emily and Ryan Watson of Lufkin, Aleisha and Stanley Zavala of Friendswood, and Courtney Thornton of Lufkin; 16 great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Margie and Joe Harris of Huntington; her sitter and caregiver, Deanna Morish of Lufkin; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 47 years, Charles Bernard Thornton; brothers, Loyd Walker, Berlon Walker and R.B. Walker; and sisters, Pauline Colwell and Jeffie McCoy.

Pallbearers will be Blake Thornton, Clay Thornton, Ryan Watson, Kelly Thornton, Stanley Zavala, and Ethan Thornton.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dorsey Walker and Jack Thornton.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Huntington.
