Owen Ray Campbell

Funeral services for Owen Ray Campbell, 73, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, July 14, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Fred Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Ivie Cemetery in Houston County. Mr. Campbell was born June 8, 1943 in Houston, Texas to the late Rayford and Winnie Lee (Butler) Campbell and died Monday, July 11, 2016 in a local hospital. Mr. Campbell had resided in Lufkin for most of his life. He was formerly the Chief Operating Officer of Brookshire Brothers and later retired from R&R Mercantile where he was the co-owner. Mr. Campbell was an avid hunter and rancher and was a member of the Redland Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Sammie Campbell of Lufkin; son, David; granddaughters, Katie and Jennifer along with their mother, Laura; granddaughters, Taylor, Brittney, Haley and Courtney along with their mother, Pamela; sister, Billie Jo Wallace of Crockett; sister and brother-in-law, Becky and Tommy Morgan of Crockett; brother, Robert Wayne Campbell of Lufkin; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Brian Campbell. Pallbearers will be Lester Underwood, Phil Metsinger, Roger Parker, Reese Hubbard, Wayne Wilkerson, Randy Deal, Steve Green, Andy McCraw, Buddy Colmer and Bill Morgan. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Thursday evening, prior to the service, at the funeral home.
