Memorial services for Dolly Slomba, 71, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Gary Trevino officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home. Mrs. Slomba was born October 17, 1944 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Elmer and Erna (Curry) Horst, and died Friday, July 08, 2016 in a local hospital. Dolly was a devoted, caring nurse who went above and beyond for her patients. She was employed as a nurse with Park Place Nursing Home where she retired after 11 years. In her free time, she enjoyed sitting on her porch reading and was a big baseball fan. She had a soft spot for stray animals, and was known for making sure they were fed and taken care of. She adored her faithful companions, Harley, her Chihuahua, and Skididt, her precious cat. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be deeply missed. Survivors include her daughter, Denise Slomba with her fiance, Tony Elwood of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Sofia Slomba of Lufkin; granddaughter, Eva Slomba and grandson, Trevin Slomba, both of Lufkin; brothers, Pete Horst of Maryland, Rex Horst of Victoria and Randy Horst of Houston; and dear friends, Mary Gerard and Jeane Drake.
