Arthur Morris Fletcher

Funeral services for Arthur Morris Fletcher, 90, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, July 7, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Horace Fletcher officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery in Groveton. Mr. Fletcher was born April 27, 1926 in Groveton, Texas to the late Arthur D. “Red” and Allie B. (Trawick) Fletcher, and passed away Monday, July 4, 2016 in hospice care at Memorial Hospital in Lufkin. Mr. Fletcher was a World War II veteran and moved from Groveton to Lufkin after the war. He was a proud veteran and served his country faithfully. After the war he worked at the paper mill for 13 years and then worked as a construction electrician for IBEW for 33 years. After retiring, Mr. Fletcher served over 20 years as a volunteer at the Charlie Wilson V.A. Clinic, driving veterans to the V.A. Hospital in Houston. When he could no longer drive he volunteered at the Outpatient Clinic. He survived numerous combat related injuries during the war but he was highly devoted to his country and helping veterans and his V.A. family. Mr. Fletcher enjoyed riding motorcycles, working on machinery, and fishing. He loved his wife and children and never met a stranger. If he did, they knew him before he left. Mr. Fletcher was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Morris and Jenny Fletcher of Lufkin; daughters, Karen Ward of Louisiana and Annette May of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Lester Rhoden of Lufkin; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brothers and sisters-in-law, Horace and Dorothy Fletcher and James and Betty Fletcher, all of Lufkin; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and loving wife, Nan Fletcher. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Kelly, Joel, Allen, Josh, Jackson, Charlie, and Hayden. Honorary pallbearers will be the volunteers at the Charlie Wilson V.A. Clinic. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904.
