Arthur Brooks, Jr.

Funeral services for Arthur Brooks, Jr., 89, of Lufkin will be held Monday, June 27, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Lufkin First Assembly with Annette Lee and Frank Latimer officiating. Interment will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery in Alto, Texas.

Mr. Brooks was born December 2, 1926 in Alto, Texas to the late Arthur Brooks, Sr. and Gladys (Finch) Brooks and died Wednesday, June 22, 2016 in a local hospital.

Mr. Brooks was a longtime resident of Lufkin. He was the retired owner of Murrell’s Pharmacy. Mr. Brooks was the oldest current member of Lufkin’s First Assembly.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Joy Felder Brooks of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Frank Latimer of Lufkin; grandsons, Mark Evans and wife Pamela of Fredericksburg, Virginia and Malcolm Evans of Cypress; great-grandsons, Hunter Evans and Tyler Evans, both of Fredericksburg, Virginia and Merrick Evans of Cypress, Texas; brothers, Aubrey Lewis Brooks of Alto and W.A. Brooks and wife Margie of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and David Meeks of Mineola; sister, Nancy Brooks and Joyce Campbell of Mineola; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Perry Evans; brothers, Travis Brooks, Leroy Brooks and R.L. “Rocky” Brooks; sister, Madelyn Sharp.

Pallbearers will be Mark Evans, Malcolm Evans, Dannie Felder, Frank Latimer, Alvin Vander Leest and Wayne Haglund.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Caleb’s Camp Sunday School Class.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
