Kevin Brian Roy

October 28, 1959 — June 16, 2016

Funeral services for Brother Kevin Brian Roy, 56, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Denman Avenue Baptist Church with Brother Charles M. Roberts and Pastor Jeff Moats officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mr. Roy was born October 28, 1959 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Robert Edwin and Patsy Ruth (Willis) Roy, and died Thursday, June 16, 2016 in a Houston hospital.

Mr. Roy had resided in Lufkin for 30 years. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from East Texas Baptist College. Mr. Roy had served as an Associate Pastor at Denman Avenue Baptist Church for 30 years.

Kevin’s life was changed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ at a young age, which affected every aspect of his daily life. As a result, Kevin considered himself as a tool for God to use to impact the world, leading him to serve countless people across East Texas, Northern Louisiana, and even third world countries. His life was blessed with/He humbly took ownership in filling the roles of pastor, counselor, coach, father, son, husband, and friend for people from all walks of life. However, the role he most effectively filled was that of a servant in accordance to God’s command in Mark 10:43. Kevin put himself second and others first.

Later in his life, he was faced with considerable difficulty and suffering, including an emergency liver transplant, the sudden death of his wife Tana, and a double lung transplant. However, despite these difficulties, Kevin embodied the qualities of integrity and perseverance. He was the best representation of James 1:12 that any of us have ever seen.

Most importantly, Kevin was faithful. He was a believer of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and wanted to see as many people come to faith in Jesus as is possible. His life and his legacy attest to the power of the Holy Spirit to change a person – to make them “born again” as mentioned in John 3.

Kevin would have loved nothing more than for you, the reader, to experience that same power of the Holy Spirit by reading the preceding verses in the Bible as you consider his life and the impact God made through him.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Hannah Roy of Dallas; daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Brittany and Greg Duyka of Houston; granddaughter, Adalyn Rose Duyka of Houston; mother, Patsy Roy of Bossier City, Louisiana; sisters-in-law, Jenny Nunnally Pentecost of Benton, Louisiana, Lori Nunnally Marshall of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Erin Nunnally of Bossier City, Louisiana; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
