Funeral services for James B. Crawford, 80, of Lufkin will be held Friday, June 17, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Don Loftin and Brother Louie Lawson officiating. Interment will follow in the Simpson Cemetery. Mr. Crawford was born March 30, 1936 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Sam and Dolly (Norwood) Crawford and died Wednesday, June 15, 2016 in Lufkin. Mr. Crawford was a lifelong resident of Lufkin. He served with the United States Army and then went on to work for the Texas Department of Transportation where he retired after 33 years in the Building Maintenance Department. He was a Deacon of the Lancewood Baptist Church and loved his church family and was also a member of the Lufkin Masonic Lodge #669 A.F.& A.M. He was an avid quail hunter who raised and trained his own bird dogs. Mr. Crawford was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Nell Crawford of Lufkin; son Randy Crawford and daughter, Jill Crawford, both of Lufkin; grandsons, Jason Crawford and Chisum Chavers, both of Lufkin; sister, Bobbie Cook of Diboll; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dell and Bee Lumpkin; sister-in-law, Norma Jean Cloudy, all of Lufkin; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Curtis and Doris Thompson of Flint and Eugene and Linda Thompson of Wallesville; numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother and three sisters. Pallbearers will be David McCoy, Paul Hooper, James Farrell, James Holmes, Royce Mangrum and Steve Allen. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Lee, Travis Corbin, Frank Edge, Charles Modisette and friends of Lancewood Baptist Church. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
