Mary Beth (Willis) Rhodes

Funeral services for Mary Beth (Willis) Rhodes, 71, of Lufkin will be held Sunday, June 26,2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Promise Land Baptist Church with Brother Myrton Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in the Attoyac Cemetery.

Ms. Rhodes was born October 25, 1944 in Nacogdoches, Texas to the late Joseph Edgar and Veva (Donahoe) Willis and died Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at Larkspur Nursing Facility.

Ms. Rhodes had resided in Lufkin since 1965. She was a 1964 graduate from San Augustine High School. Mary was employed by Brookshire Brothers Corporate Office in the sales department, Dr. Alexander’s Office where she was in insurance filling, and in later years with Ann Thomas, in house care. Mary was a member of Promise Land Baptist Church. She loved spending quality time with her family on big holidays, birthdays, and any other function that was related. She loved going to the beach in Florida, loved Galveston Island and liked vacationing with her family. She liked to plan big dinners and enjoyed buying other people gifts for whatever day was to the event. Mary believed in taking care of herself all the way to the end, she always said, “cleanliness was next to Godliness”. She loved going to church and worshipping God no matter what cards were dealt; she’d say its Gods plan. Mary developed abdominal cancer in June of 2015 and fought the battle with chemotherapy in Houston at MD Anderson. She checked in to St. Luke’s hospital on June 6th, went into Larkspur on June 10th, and passed from this life on June 14th. She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Lesa and Patrick Young of Pollok; son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Brenda Rhodes of Hudson; granddaughters, Shelby Ashton Young of Pollok and Loran Ashley Rhodes of Hudson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Johnny Joe Willis.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2016, at the funeral home.
