Funeral services for Velda Allison Dunn, 91, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Cindy Doran officiating. Interment will follow in the Largent Cemetery. Mrs. Dunn was born May 15, 1925 in Lufkin, Texas, the oldest of five children born to James Watts Allison and Gordie (Anderson) Allison. She passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2016 after achieving 91 years of life. Mrs. Dunn attended Central ISD in Pollok, Texas and married Elbert F. Dunn January 7, 1943. Mr. and Mrs. Dunn resided in Pollok, Texas until 1950 when Mr. Dunn obtained employment in Houston, Texas. After living in Houston for approximately 30 years, Mr. and Mrs. Dunn built a home and moved back to Lufkin. Mrs. Dunn was a homemaker who loved her family and home. She loved to crochet and made many beautiful afghans for family, friends, and requested purchases. She loved traveling, reading, Elvis Presley, collected dolls, and collected black and white cows. For the past 10 years, Mrs. Dunn had resided in Parkwood Place Healthcare in Lufkin, Texas. Survivors include her husband of 73 years, Elbert F. Dunn of Lufkin; daughter, Judy Brister Fenley and son-in-law Paul Fenley of Lufkin; son, Don Dunn of Houston; grandson, Israel Dunn and wife Viki Dunn of Aubrey, Texas; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jimmy and Sadie Allison of Lufkin and Bobby and Laura Ann Allison of Pollok; sister, Betty Landry of Silsbee, Texas; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Ruby Dunn of Groveton; brother-in-law, Rufus Dunn of Lufkin; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, J.W. and Gordie Allison; sister, Lois Standley Catching; and grandson, Aaron Brister. Pallbearers will be Scott Broughton, Danny Ray Allison, Tommy Largent, Richard Jones, Patrick Largent, and Craig Largent. A special thank you and appreciation to the staff of Parkwood Place Healthcare and Heart to Heart Hospice for their loving care. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Northeast Texas Chapter, 1021 ESE Loop 323, Suite 300C, Tyler, Texas 75701, or a charity of your choice. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
