Funeral services for Rickey Alton Buchanan, 64, of Lufkin will be held Friday, May 20, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Scott Reed and Brother Randy Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Whitehouse Cemetery. Mr. Buchanan was born February 8, 1952 in Nacogdoches, Texas to the late Floyd Alton Buchanan and Elizabeth Rosetta Bates and died Wednesday, May 18, 2016 in a local hospital. Mr. Buchanan had resided in Lufkin for most of his life. He retired from Lufkin Industries after 43 years as a Machine Operator. He sang with the Ransomed Quartet and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Mr. Buchanan was passionately involved with the East Texas Recovery Resources. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren whom he enjoyed spoiling with 2 o’clock trips to Sonic for “happy hour”. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Buchanan Temple and husband John John Temple of Lufkin; grandson, Parker Cash Buchanan and granddaughter, Rikki Grace Buchanan both of Lufkin; granddaughter, Jade Temple and grandson, Johnathan Marcus Temple both of Diboll; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ronald Eugene and Audrey Pope of Huntington; brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Wendy Buchanan of Nacogdoches along with Rickey’s Nephew, Flutie; sister, Jamie Roman of Corsicana along with her children, Corbett and Allika; five great-grandchildren; niece, Rhonda Maddux and husband Mike along with their children, Mattelynn and Thomas; nephew, Robert Pope and wife Karen along with their daughter, Taylor Pope; nephew, Chad Sachatino; niece, Lindsey Sachatino; niece, Lindsay Lee; niece, Lisa Lee along with her children, Tyler and Jayden Hall; uncle, Roland Bates of Pasadena along with his children, David Bates and Deanne Bates; adopted daughter, Emmili Jackson of Lufkin along with her sons, Omarion and Javarion; Carol Smith; cousins, Trish and Bill Barfield and Cindy and Greg Pierce. She was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 36 years, Deborah Renee Buchanan, who preceded him in 2013; daughter, Jeannie Suzanne Buchanan; sister, Vickie Lee; aunt, Ann Bates. Pallbearers will be Andy Johnson, Smokey Davidson, Elton Fenley, Doug Conn, Mike Rice, Greg Ener, Paul Smith and Ricky Sowell. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Kendrick, Dale Staten and Martin Walden. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
