Funeral services for Billie Hughes Lewis, 87, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, May 5, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel. Private interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Mrs. Lewis was born May 12, 1928 in Brashear, Texas to the late Joe Edward Hughes and Deedie Celeste Williams and died Saturday, April 30, 2016 in Lufkin. Mrs. Lewis, former resident of Sulphur Springs, had resided in Lufkin for over 78 years. She worked in Data Processing for Lufkin-Conroe Telephone Exchange for 40 years. She enjoyed listening to gospel music and was a wonderful cook. She taught children’s Sunday School classes for a number of years and also did adult devotionals at her church. She loved her family unconditionally. Mrs. Lewis was a member of Herty Baptist Church for over 50 years. Survivors include her daughter, Charlotte Krenek of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Chuck and Dr. Sue Lin Lewis of Taiwan; grandson, Mark Krenek of Katy; great-grandsons, Walker and Will Krenek of Katy; Michele Krenek of Katy; sister-in-law, Martha Miller of Spring; niece and nephew, Randy and Susan Russell of Lufkin; great-niece, Hollie Slaback and husband Jason of Longview; nephew, Andy Modisette, II of Lufkin; nephew, Robert Read and wife, Becky of Spring; nephews, David Ditsworth and wife Debbie of Lufkin and Eddie Ditsworth and wife Linda of Kansas. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 ½ years, Charles D. Lewis; her parents; two sisters, Mary Modisette and Patsy Ditsworth; son-in-law, Charles Krenek; and nephew, Joey Ditsworth. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Modisette, Howard Hartnett, J.T. Frisby, Joel Newman, Ray Thornton, Alan Loggins, Bob McCarroll, David Murphy, Travis Taylor, Philip Taylor and Mark Pope. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the Neches House, the Joseph House and Heart to Heart Hospice.
