Funeral services for Ruby McAdams Hanks, 92, of Pollok will be held Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Redtown Missionary Baptist Church with Brother M.L. “Bud” Magee officiating. Interment will follow in the Sand Flat Cemetery.
Mrs. Hanks was born October 5, 1923 in the Redtown Community of Angelina County, Texas to the late Silas and Mollie (Abshire) McAdams, and died Sunday, April 24, 2016 in a local hospice facility. She was married to the love of her life, M.C. Hanks, for 73 years, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Hanks was the last surviving child of Silas and Mollie. She was a lifetime resident of Pollok.
Mrs. Hanks retired from Central ISD and was a lifelong member of Redtown Missionary Baptist Church. She helped hold elections for many years and was the presiding judge for Precinct 23 for a number of years. Mrs. Hanks enjoyed cooking, especially for large family gatherings of her children and grandchildren, and at church. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, loved teaching Sunday school, and doing numerous other jobs around the church. Mrs. Hanks enjoyed serving in her community to assist those who needed assistance to get to the doctor and in times of health issues and deaths.
She is loved and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Suzanne Hanks of Monroe, Georgia, Kenneth and Janelle Hanks of Lufkin, and Roy and Linda Hanks of Dayton, Tennessee; daughters and sons-in-law, Yvonne (Hanks) and Joe Blake of Lufkin and Carolyn (Hanks) and Mike Kimling of Pollok; grandchildren, Dwayne Hanks, Leslie Tombs, Eric Hanks, Scott Hanks, Vonda Seale, Sonya Honeycutt, Waylon Blake, Catherine Prescher, Aaron Hanks, Julie Harris, Darrell Hanks, Keith Hanks, Stephen Hanks, Stephanie Davis, and David Kimling; numerous great and great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Bennis Whitworth of Lufkin; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be Dwayne Hanks, Keith Hanks, Scott Hanks, Aaron Hanks, David Kimling, and Jake Hanks.
Honorary pallbearers will be Walter Prescher and Josh Harris.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sand Flat Cemetery, 4450 W. State Highway 7, Pollok, Texas 75969, Redtown Missionary Baptist Church, 6310 W. State Highway 7, Pollok, Texas 75969, or Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at Carroway Funeral Home.
