Maggie Lee Brister Drawhorn

Funeral services for Maggie Lee Brister Drawhorn, 106, of Zavalla will be held Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Zavalla First Baptist Church with Pastor Stephen Forrest officiating. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. in the Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.

Mrs. Drawhorn was born March 18, 1910 in San Augustine County, Texas to the late Henry James and Charlsie (Marshall) Brister, and died Saturday, April 23, 2016 in a local nursing home.

Mrs. Drawhorn had resided in Zavalla since the early 1960’s. Prior to that she resided in Port Neches and worked at Dryden’s Department Store in Groves. Mrs. Drawhorn loved sewing and enjoyed ceramics and gardening. She was known for collecting rocks and various collectibles. She was a good cook, and her family particularly looked forward to her gumbo. Mrs. Drawhorn was a member of the Zavalla Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of Zavalla First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Gloria Hanson of Zavalla; son and daughter-in-law, Obed and Priscilla “Pris” Drawhorn of Nederland; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 24 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Melba McCoy of Palacios and Jean LeClaire of Pearland; brother and sister-in-law, L.J. and Marilyn Brister of Palacios; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Torvald Taylor Drawhorn; grandson, Russell “Rusty” Nettles; and 10 siblings.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at Carroway Funeral Home in Huntington.
