Thomas James "T.J." Johnson

Funeral services for Thomas James “T.J.” Johnson, 97, of Houston, formerly of Hudson, will be held Monday, April 25, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Billy McKnight officiating. Graveside services with military honors from the U.S. Navy and masonic rites under the auspices of the Lufkin Masonic Lodge #669 A.F. & A.M. will follow in the Wallace Chapel Cemetery. Mr. Johnson was born March 8, 1919 in Ratcliff, Texas to the late Thomas and Martha (Hansen) Johnson, and died Friday, April 22, 2016 in a Houston hospital. Mr. Johnson served in the U.S. Navy and retired from Armco Steel in Houston. Following his retirement, Mr. Johnson moved to East Texas to enjoy farming and gardening. He was known to share his flower and vegetable garden produce. After residing in Hudson for more than 30 years, he returned to Houston in 2009. Mr. Johnson was an all-around outdoorsman who enjoyed raising livestock. He was a member of the Lufkin Masonic Lodge #669 A.F. & A.M. Mr. Johnson was a member of Wallace Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. He loved the Lord and loved his church. Mr. Johnson was always known to be active in support of the church. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Joy Lynn and Jerry Wilson of Houston; son and daughter-in-law, Tommy Wayne and Sandy Johnson of Channelview; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lela Whiteis of Wichita Falls and Mary Pedrazas of Houston; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 60 years, Veda M. (Baker) Johnson; grandson, Wess Sharp; three brothers; and one sister. Pallbearers will be Keith Sharp, Zachary Goodson, Brandon Goodson, Chris Wilson, Kenneth Sharp, and Buck Lee. Memorial contributions may be made to Wallace Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, c/o Joe and Connie Gipson, 258 Penn Bonner Road, Lufkin, Texas 75904. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
