Funeral services for Hosea Forrest, 84, of Huntington will be held Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Brother Adrian Neal and Brother Milton “Scooter” Kelly officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow in the Huntington Cemetery. Mr. Forrest was born July 17, 1931 in Huntington, Texas to the late Randolph and Estella (Snowden) Forrest, and died Sunday, March 27, 2016 at his residence. Mr. Forrest was a lifetime resident of Huntington. He graduated from Huntington High School in 1949 and attended Stephen F. Austin State University. Mr. Forrest served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and was a life member of the V.F.W. He was an electrician at Southland Paper Mill for 17 ½ years, and owned and operated Western Auto in Huntington for 18 years and Lufkin Marine from 1987 until his retirement in 1997. Mr. Forrest coached youth baseball in Lufkin for several years and was the coach of the Lufkin Pony League All-Stars that won the World Series Championship in Springfield, Missouri in 1959. He was also a Boy Scout Master for several years. Mr. Forrest attended Oak Flat Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Maria Forrest of Huntington; sons, Richard Forrest of Lufkin and David Forrest of Boerne; stepson, Mathew Morris of Zavalla; stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Tracey and Anthony Bartlett of Huntington; stepson-in-law, David Linstrom of Huntington; grandchildren, Breanna Kaye Forrest, Brian Forrest, both of Huntsville, Cailyn Bartlett, Grace Bartlett, Brittney Bartlett, Collen Linstrom, Jordan Linstrom, Reagan Bartlett, and Ashton Linstrom, all of Huntington; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Barbara Forrest of Lufkin; brother-in-law, Frank Giese of Brazosport; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepdaughter, Gina Linstrom; stepson, Jimmy Morris; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jewell and Dale Russell, Betty Giese, and Thelma and Floyd Carrell; and brother and sister-in-law, Pete and Eloise “Cricket” Forrest. Pallbearers will be Casey Boston, Greg Boston, Anthony Bartlett, Mike Scogin, Reagan Bartlett, and Collen Linstrom. Honorary pallbearers will be David Linstrom, J.C. Boone, Marvin Hale, and Joe Renfro. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, East Texas Regional Office, 304 N. Raguet Street, Suite C, Lufkin, Texas 75904, or Heart to Heart Hospice, 209 Christie Street, Lufkin, Texas 75904. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Lufkin.
