William Talmadge "Bill" Jones

Graveside services for William Talmadge “Bill” Jones, 87, of Hudson will be held Saturday, March 26, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Rocky Springs/Old Center Cemetery with Reverend Jerry Browning and Brother Johnny Emerson officiating.

William Talmadge “Bill” Jones passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2016, 2 days prior to his 88th birthday. As a native of Lufkin he returned to the area over 20 years ago to reside in Hudson, and was a member of Keltys Baptist Church.

Bill served during World War II in the U.S. Army and was a proud veteran. He was a manager for many years for Wal-Mart in several areas including Longview, Memphis, Tennessee, and New Albany, Mississippi prior to returning to his beloved East Texas. Prior to Wal-Mart, he ran the Cherokee Laundry in Rusk, Texas. In Rusk he was always involved with youth sports and was also a catcher for the AAA Baseball team. He coached several baseball teams and was involved in building the Youth Baseball Park there and was the official photographer for the Rusk High School Eagles football team. He loved sports and officiated basketball at schools all over Texas, and umpired baseball games.

While in Hudson, for over 10 years he was a volunteer for the American Red Cross, the Ham Radio chapter, and the Neches River Canoe Float to name a few of his commitments to the community. He was also active with the Hudson School system in various activities including with the Varsity Cheerleaders among other committees.

He was born March 25, 1928 to Talmadge and Ina Pearl (Laird) Jones, and was preceded in death by his sisters, Betty Del Bianco and Wanda Bass; and brother, Kenneth Jones. He also has a sister, Martha Ann Jones, of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Bill was the much loved father of daughters, Linda (Jones) Roberts of Bryan, Texas and Jana (Jones) Pickett and husband Rob of Austin, Texas; and a son, Bill Jones, Jr. and wife Julie of Denton; three grandchildren, Brent Roberts and wife Siglenda of San Francisco, California, Jennifer Methvin of Plano, Texas, and Justin Jones of Midland, Texas; he also leaves three great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, many longtime friends, and his best friend, his dog Jodie.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Stroke Association, 9707 E. Easter Lane, Suite B, Centennial, Colorado 80112, the American Heart Association, 10900-B Stonelake Blvd., Suite 320, Austin, Texas 78759, or the charity of your choice.

Pallbearers are: Brent Roberts, Rob Pickett, Justin Jones, Brent Pitts, Orin Arant and Kenneth Lambert.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Carroway Funeral Home.
